Kindergarten is where children form a foundation for their formal learning experience. The expression “All I needed to learn I learned in kindergarten” is true. Children learn many useful skills and ideas in kindergarten that they will use all their lives. From sharing, to listening, to taking turns, to helping others; it’s all learned right here in the kindergarten classroom.
In our kindergarten program at DCCS, children learn how to read; they learn basic math skills to get them ready for first grade. They are introduced to science and social studies concepts through books, stories, finger plays, and poems. Of course, Bible is a main focus of our curriculum. During Bible time, children learn and memorize Bible verses and learn very practical lessons that they can apply to their lives daily.
Centers are an important part of kindergarten as well. During center time, children practice skills taught during formal instruction in a fun way. By playing games with a partner, children are able to review skills they learned earlier in the day.
We take Early Education seriously at DCCS and our goal is to prepare each child for success in first grade. We also strive to provide a safe and loving atmosphere where Jesus Christ is modeled.
