In third grade Bible class we begin with a review of Exodus, which was studied in second grade. Next we concentrate on the Judges of the Old Testament. About mid-year, we take up the New Testament beginning with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and ending with stories of the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul.

When your child enters 3rd grade, he/she will have already memorized the 1-20 addition and subtraction facts and have an understanding of two-digit problems. After a review, students learn place value to the millions place and rounding whole numbers. We  spend time working with money, including making change, but  we concentrate mainly on memorizing and comprehending multiplication and division. Our goal is that the children will master the times tables this year.

In history we study both great Americans and those who made America great. A Great American Day in which the students dress up and give an oral presentation of one of our characters from history class provides a celebratory event that culminates our learning.

Language arts class encompasses grammar and writing chapters, which alternate during the course of the year, and spelling and reading. We cover the parts of speech, capitalization, and punctuation and how to use them in formal writing.  Phonics is applied to reading and spelling. We study different genres from fanciful to nonfiction. We read Laura Ingalls Wilder’s first book, Little House in the Big Woods.

Science class is a perfect setting to remind the children that God is the Creator of our world and our bodies. We cover both health and general science during our school year.  In our general science class, we study different animal and plant communities. For health class we not only learn about our physical health, but we talk about our spiritual health as well.
